01 · Reference standard

Tindeq Progressor 200

The device every other Bluetooth strength scale gets compared to in peer-reviewed research.

Price
$160 USD
Where to buy
Amazon
Sampling rate
80 Hz
Capacity
200 kg / 440 lb
Precision
±0.25% full scale
App
Free

Best for: General strength measurement, isometric mid-thigh pull, grip work, home gym testing, and anyone who wants the best-engineered option in the category without shopping around.

Not for: Loads above 200 kg — you’ll need the Progressor 500 ($220) for heavy deadlifts and elite-level testing.

This is the reference standard in the category, and it deserves the reputation. Tindeq is a small Norwegian company that makes exactly one product family and has been iterating on it for years. USB-C rechargeable. Free app. If money isn’t tight, this is the answer.

Peer-reviewed comparison against a laboratory-grade dynamometer found intraclass correlation of 0.929–0.989 for the Progressor — Measurement in PE and Exercise Science, 2025.

02 · Honest budget pick

WeiHeng WH-C06

An industrial crane scale that happens to have Bluetooth — and measures nearly as reliably as the Tindeq at a third of the price.

Price
$40–$56 USD
Where to buy
Alibaba (via Awin)
Sampling rate
~10–20 Hz
Capacity
300 kg / 660 lb
Form factor
Hanging crane scale
App
Use the MSS app

Best for: Anyone testing peak force on slow, sustained pulls — grip strength, isometric holds, seated row max, deadlift start pull. Also the right pick to test the app and the framework before committing to a Tindeq.

Not for: Rate-of-force-development testing — the sampling rate is too low. Also not for anyone who wants a purpose-built fitness product; this is a legitimate industrial crane scale that speaks Bluetooth.

A 2025 peer-reviewed study found the WH-C06 nearly matches the Tindeq for reliability at slow, high-force measurements at a third of the price. Buy the 300 kg model in black or orange — those are the confirmed Bluetooth-enabled versions. The factory-shipped app isn’t great; use the Measured Strength app instead.

Why Alibaba, not Amazon? Amazon US lists only the non-Bluetooth WH-C06. The Bluetooth-equipped variant — the one the Measured Strength app can pair with — isn’t FCC-certified and isn’t sold on Amazon. Alibaba is the only reliable channel for the model you actually want. Expect a minimum order of 2 units and 2–4 weeks of ocean shipping.

US buyers: This device does not carry FCC certification. Review the personal-use import provisions before ordering — see the site-wide disclosure below.

Intraclass correlation 0.904–0.963 versus the Tindeq’s 0.929–0.989 — Measurement in PE and Exercise Science, 2025.

03 · Climbing specialist

Entralpi Force Plate

Purpose-built for finger strength on a hangboard. If that’s your training, this is the tool.

Price
$185 CAD (~$135 USD)
Where to buy
Direct from entralpi.com
Sampling rate
100 Hz
Form factor
Hangboard-mounted plate
Built for
Finger strength training
App
Free (Entralpi native)

Best for: Climbers focused on finger strength — max hangs, repeaters, critical force, one-arm hangs.

Not for: General strength testing, lower-body work, or anyone who isn’t training on a hangboard. The form factor is a plate that mounts to a board, not a scale you hang from a bar.

Purpose-built for one job, and it does that job better than the generalist devices. The Entralpi app has climbing-specific protocols built in, and the community around it includes some of the best climbing coaches in North America. If you’re a climber, serious contender. If you’re not, buy something else.

04 · Direct-from-China wildcard

Jinlian CTS-500

The cheapest hardware capability in the category — for technical buyers comfortable with the trade-offs.

Price
~$55 USD (MOQ 2)
Where to buy
Alibaba (via Awin)
Sampling rate
10 / 20 / 40 / 80 / 160 / 320 Hz
Capacity
300 kg / 660 lb
Housing
Aluminum alloy
App
Use the MSS app

Best for: Technically confident buyers comfortable with international shipping, no US-based warranty, and no manufacturer support. The hardware specifications are exceptional for the price.

Not for: Anyone who wants a plug-and-play product with US warranty support, or anyone who requires FCC certification — the current Bluetooth module does not carry one. Buy at your own discretion; this is not a device I import or resell.

US buyers: This device does not carry FCC certification. Review the personal-use import provisions before ordering — see the site-wide disclosure below.

I own four of these development units, I’ve reverse-engineered and validated the Bluetooth protocol, and the Measured Strength app supports them today. On paper the hardware is the best-value option in the category by a wide margin. In practice, the trade-offs are real. The manufacturer has confirmed a fully-certified successor is on the roadmap; I’ll update this section when it ships.

How I’d actually pick

If we were sitting across from each other at a coffee shop and you asked me one question, here’s what I’d say.

  • Money isn’t the constraint: Tindeq Progressor 200. $160. Buy it and don’t look back.
  • On a tight budget: WeiHeng WH-C06 on Amazon. $40–$56. Genuinely almost as good for slow, high-force work.
  • Climber, finger strength is everything: Entralpi Force Plate. Purpose-built for that exact job.
  • Technical, patient, DIY-friendly: Jinlian CTS-500. Cheapest per unit of capability. Eyes open on the trade-offs.
